We had a "hot" time at the Spring Property Outing over Memorial Day Weekend. There were a total of 30 attendees (plus Emmy dog). They are listed at the end of the summary.
The hot weather was a real feature of the weekend with afternoon highs around 95 degrees. It was also very humid for this time of year. We tried to stay out of the sun during the peak of the heat and found ways to cool off. The heat (and lower than usual water levels) presented an opportunity we had not had for years - namely, the opportunity to more fully explore the creek on the property. Most attendees walked the length of the creek from the "shooting" field to the road area. This was fun ... but a little slippery and slightly gross, although we did make friends with tadpoles, frogs, minnows, and crawdads. Dan and Eric fell in the creek on the walk. The creek presented another property first -- the first person to be visited by a leech (who happened to be little Christopher)! Cari fortunately saw it right away and pulled it off.
We also celebrated Todd's 40th birthday during the outing and also made good use of Leo's brand new ATV. We were visited by a nice group of people on a wagon pulled by actual clydesdales on their way to a holiday picnic at Bem Church (which is a United Church of Christ congregation -- not a Baptist one as the riders had "grabbed some Buds!")
We engaged in our normal games, featuring softball (when cool enough) and shooting. Feats included Italian beef and smoked turkey breasts (and many yummy sides). We also had a surprise visit by Tom and Mary Ann Burns, fresh off of their trip to Alaska! The next outing will be over Labor Day Weekend.
